How to Help

Our mission at the Friends is to help the patients and their families have a more comfortable experience during their stay at The Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital.

The children are usually scared and home sick when admitted into the hospital and many have working parents that cannot stay by their sides during the day or have to travel far from home.

The Friends provides toys, books and clothes to the children during their stay and volunteers spread good cheer, comfort and love. On request, parents are provided with food parcels, transportation costs, overnight stay parcels as well as auxillary services so that they can focus on their child's recovery.

The Friends is supported by the community and we appreciate every donation we receive. Please help by donating either by direct deposit or EFT. Please forward an email to us with your name and donation so that we may send you a big thank you and a shout out on our website.

Why donate?

- Giving

At the FRIENDS OF THE CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL ASSOCIATION we have recognised that there are a large number of South Africans living abroad who want to feel a connection with ‘home’ and help ‘give something back’.

Others such as businesses, schools and faith groups want to help make the lives of children in Africa better.

Supporting the Children’s Hospital Trust could not be simpler – we are helping very sick children from marginalised communities in South Africa.

Monies donated today will help a sick child tomorrow.

Funds raised go directly to our priority projects and programmes. Our aim is to help support the amazing Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital and provide the non-medical services to the patients and their families.

- Tax benefits

All donations made to the Friends of the Children’s Hospital Association are exempt from donations tax and qualify the donor for deductions from taxable income in accordance with the income tax act 58 of 1962.

If you give more than R100 per annum, you will receive a Section 18A tax certificate enabling you to claim a deduction from personal or corporate taxable income.

Tax certificates will be issued at the end of the financial year unless requested earlier.

Donor deductibility applies to cash donations, bequests and donations in kind.

When you submit the receipt with your annual income tax return, you can get up to a maximum

deduction of 10% of your annual taxable income or R100 000 (whichever is greater). To read more about PBO and Section 18A criteria, log on to the SARS website.
